Big Nights @ La Belle is a new month-long concert series taking place during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, only at La Belle Angele. This exciting new collaboration between the popular Old Town venue and summer events series Big Nights Out will host a cavalcade of extraordinary performers across the whole month of August, from familiar names and party starters to your new favourite artist. Beloved Libertines co-founder and esteemed solo artist Peter Docherty will perform across two nights in support of his much-anticipated new album Felt Better Alive (12+13 Aug); Kristen Hersh brings her popular 90s alt-rock combo Throwing Muses back to the capital with their first album in five years, Moonlight Concessions (20 Aug); Multi- Grammy-Award-Winning US Blues artist Fantastic Negrito brings his explosive live show to the city on 19 Aug, while revered MC and master of the bass-baritone flow, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli) brings his solo tour to Edinburgh for a hip-hop masterclass on 11 Aug. Beach Bunny announce new headline show in Glasgow

Big Nights Out has announced a new wave of summer concerts at Queen’s Park Arena as part of its 2025 programming across two of Glasgow’s iconic outdoor bandstands. Over several nights in May, June and July, Glasgow will play host to a packed line up of world-renowned artists and local legends for a run of very special live outdoor performances at Kelvingrove Bandstand and Queen’s Park Arena this year.Today, new performances have been added to the line up at Queen’s Park Arena, including Leeds post-punk faves Yard Act (18 July), punk-jazz experimenter Geordie Greep (black midi - 19 July) and rambunctious London indie-punk collective Warmduscher (5 July). Michelle Zauner&#39;s cinematic indie rock project Japanese Breakfast has today released their fourth album, For Melancholy Brunettes (&amp; Sad Women) via Dead Oceans. Somehow, 2024 saw the 30th anniversary of the birth of Glasgow, Scotland’s Disco/Punk legends bis. 2025 sees them move in their fourth decade of a rollercoaster existence. A whirlwind first 18 months saw them go from playing to a handful of curious future fans in Glasgow basements to peak-time TV stardom on Top of the Pops and filling huge tents at festivals across Europe all while still teenagers. While the UK media was in equal parts enamoured and horrified by the unorthodox musical DNA of the band, their knack for a nagging melody, unrelenting energy and wide-eyed politics saw them hit big in Japan, nearly breakthrough in America where they had label support from the Beastie Boys and touring with a diverse range of acts reflecting the disparate range of influences the band had – Foo Fighters, The Cardigans, Bikini Kill and Pavement to name but a few. Whilst perhaps best known for early Riot-Grrrl influenced hit ‘Kandy Pop’ or the later slick Techno-Pop of ‘Eurodisco’, the band are also known worldwide as creators of the original theme to ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ cartoon and for the appearance of ‘Statement of Intent’ on the soundtrack to the ‘Jet Set Future’ videogame. After 3 albums and countless singles, the band temporarily called it a day in 2003, frustrated by record label struggles. They would reunite occasionally (an Islington Academy sellout in 2007 and a triumphant Primavera in 2012 amongst others) but returned with renewed vigour in 2019 with the ‘Slight Disconnects’ album and again in 2022 with the Rave-influenced ‘Systems Music For Home Defence’. As part of the 30 year anniversary celebrations, the band performed a stand-out sell-out show at Glasgow’s iconic St Luke’s which gathered fans from around the globe as well as respect contemporaries like Mogwai and Franz Ferdinand. With their reputation as a must-see live band gathering pace even now, upcoming shows in 2025 will provide a real treat for hardcore fans and newcomers alike.

Kevin Burke is one of the great fiddle players in the history of Irish music. His technical virtuosity is matched with soulful musicality, a deep knowledge of the Irish traditional repertoire and a unique personal style. A generation of Irish fiddle players have been inspired and influenced by his silky-smooth tone, pulsing rhythmic bowing and crisply executed ornamentation, but Kevin’s art defies imitation.Born in London to Irish parents, Kevin began playing at the age of seven and soon found his way to the forefront of the vibrant Irish music scene in “the Big Smoke,” serving an apprenticeship in the 1960s in London dance halls and with the All-Ireland champion Glenside Ceili Band. A chance meeting with Arlo Guthrie in County Clare led to his first journey to the U.S., where he found himself meeting New York fiddle great Andy McGann and recording in Los Angeles with slide guitarist Ry Cooder. Kevin’s reputation was steadily growing, leading to invitations to join Christy Moore’s band and the famous Bothy Band, widely regarded as the greatest Irish traditional music group of all time.Next Kevin formed a partnership with guitarist and singer Mícheal Ó Domhnaill, and later became a mainstay of the groups Patrick Street, Open House, and the Celtic Fiddle Festival. His performances in recent years have often been totally solo or, as he calls it, “the naked fiddle.” This would be an intimidating high-wire act for many musicians, but Kevin’s easy manner and clever wit create an intimate bond with audiences and produce often spell-binding performances. In early 2020, Micah P. Hinson almost walked away from his music career. The esoteric Americana / folk singer-songwriter – who divides his time between Texas and Spain – had released ten critically acclaimed albums and built up a loyal fanbase (particularly in Europe), yet he felt trapped and deeply depressed. “It hit me that all I was doing was writing about my previous relationships and situations, and that meant I had nowhere to go,” Hinson says. “How can you progress as a human being into the future if all you're doing is writing about all the shit that chains you to the past?” Born in Memphis but raised in Texas, Hinson didn’t initially understand his uniqueness. For one thing, he is of Chickasaw descent, a Native American tribe known for being particularly fierce warriors. For another, his family belonged to The Church of Christ, which is, as he explains it, “one of the newest and the strictest and the most bizarre sects of Christianity.” As a teen, Hinson rejected his religious background and instead turned to music for inspiration, listening to industrial and alternative acts such as Skinny Puppy, My Bloody Valentine, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Along with his older brother, he began playing the guitar, writing songs that reflected those musical influences. At his brother’s suggestion, though, Hinson began playing acoustic guitar, though he retained his edge – a trait that remains one of his music’s most distinctive qualities to this day. Hinson began writing prolifically, recording the tracks at home and giving copies to his friends. He didn’t try to get a record deal, though, because his complicated living situation didn’t allow him to pursue anything that ambitious. “I was essentially homeless in Austin, Texas, and my life was going absolutely nowhere,” he says. “I couldn't get a job. I didn't have a car that worked. My life wasn't going well.” He was in such dire straits that he didn’t even own a guitar anymore. After his friend John Mark Lapham (from the band The Earlies) showed Hinson’s songs to a London-based record label, Hinson was finally given a way to escape his desperate situation. Besides signing him to a record deal, the label also supplied Hinson with funds to pay off warrants for his arrest, a passport, and a plane ticket to the U.K., where he recorded his debut album, Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress. Upon its release in 2004, that album earned him instant acclaim and a significant European following.&nbsp; Hinson’s next nine albums fared equally well, establishing him as one of the more innovative and interesting singer-songwriters in the international alt-folk scene. His songs are touchstones from the various moments in his colorful life, from his unsettled early days through his more recent years when he’s been a devoted father. But Hinson’s determination to do things in a radically different way became apparent as he recorded I Lie to You, as he used an outside producer for the first time. Milan, Italy-based Alessandro “Asso” Stefana, who’s worked with PJ Harvey and Mike Patton, steered the songs into a stripped down style that beautifully showcases Hinson’s intensely honest and evocative lyrics. “I was flabbergasted – I was amazed at what he was doing,” Hinson says of Stefana. “It brought new life to what I do.” Stefana also helped Hinson get a deal with Ponderosa Music Records, a well-respected Italian label that’s released work for Blonde Redhead who had so inspired Hinson during his formative years. (It also seemed like a positive sign that “Ponderosa” was the name of the ranch in Bonanza, Hinson’s favorite television show when he was growing up.) While Hinson has earned much acclaim by creating songs about his past – and no doubt I Lie to You will continue this tradition – it will be fascinating to see what he creates now that he can move on, free from all the things that had been weighing him down for years. Already, he feels revitalized in every way: “It’s not only my songwriting that changed, but my family life, my views on religion, and my views on politics,” he says. “It's really strange that I decided to make these changes in my life, and then so many amazing, beautiful things came to me. I'll be forever grateful for whatever happened to bring me to this new place.” After the few years old now album ‘I Lie To You’, he and Asso went back into the studio in the undisclosed location in northern Italy, and began working on what would become ‘The Tomorrow Man’- a collection of songs written in Spain and Texas. They are all new compositions, beyond the long lost country classic ‘The Last Train To Texas’, all written from his present and current times. They are landmark songs in his life, he feels, stating, ‘I have been searching for these songs my entire life. I’ve been on a lifelong voyage to find the perfect place where truth and understanding live, and thrive, in the forefront of my mind and my songs. I have found this place, and will be chasing this beast til my last days.’
