Alex G has announced a new show at Glasgow&#39;s legendary Barrowland Ballroom later this year. Pennsylvania&#39;s preeminent master of melodic nostalgia and indie rock experimentation Alex Giannascoli and his long-serving band of brothers return to the city on Mon 17 Nov for their biggest Scottish live show to date, swiftly following the announcement of long-awaited new album Headlights, due for release on 18 July. <a href="undefined">In the meantime, Alex has previewed the first track from his new album</a>, entitled Afterlife. Big Nights @ La Belle is a new month-long concert series taking place during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, only at La Belle Angele. This exciting new collaboration between the popular Old Town venue and summer events series Big Nights Out will host a cavalcade of extraordinary performers across the whole month of August, from familiar names and party starters to your new favourite artist. Beloved Libertines co-founder and esteemed solo artist Peter Docherty will perform across two nights in support of his much-anticipated new album Felt Better Alive (12+13 Aug); Kristen Hersh brings her popular 90s alt-rock combo Throwing Muses back to the capital with their first album in five years, Moonlight Concessions (20 Aug); Multi- Grammy-Award-Winning US Blues artist Fantastic Negrito brings his explosive live show to the city on 19 Aug, while revered MC and master of the bass-baritone flow, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli) brings his solo tour to Edinburgh for a hip-hop masterclass on 11 Aug. Beach Bunny announce new headline show in Glasgow

Big Nights Out has announced a new wave of summer concerts at Queen’s Park Arena as part of its 2025 programming across two of Glasgow’s iconic outdoor bandstands. Over several nights in May, June and July, Glasgow will play host to a packed line up of world-renowned artists and local legends for a run of very special live outdoor performances at Kelvingrove Bandstand and Queen’s Park Arena this year.Today, new performances have been added to the line up at Queen’s Park Arena, including Leeds post-punk faves Yard Act (18 July), punk-jazz experimenter Geordie Greep (black midi - 19 July) and rambunctious London indie-punk collective Warmduscher (5 July). Since forming in 2000, toe have synthesized everything from pop, post- and math-rock, jazz, R&amp;B, and electronic into one of the most distinct sounds in rock music. Their debut LP&nbsp;the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety&nbsp;(2005) left an unmistakable imprint across the splintered worlds of instrumental and experimental music, exploding the tenets of post-rock with writing and performances that channel the intensity of hardcore.&nbsp; toe have kept the same lineup since their inception. Yamazaki Hirokazu’s acoustic and Mino Takaaki’s electric guitars often juxtapose one another against the backdrop of drummer Kashikura Takashi’s unmatched sense of feel and rhythm, specializing in phrases that trick the listener with unanticipated backbeats and climactic gasps. Bassist Yamane Satoshi lends depth to the staccato, explorative melodies, gluing them to, and making sense of Takashi’s unique style. The debut’s follow-up,&nbsp;For Long Tomorrow&nbsp;(2009), was a breakthrough that explored their pop and jazz DNA, as well cementing comparisons to post-rock forebears and contemporaries like Tortoise.&nbsp;For Long Tomorrow&nbsp;also produced one of toe’s better known songs in “グッドバイ / Goodbye,” a re-recording of the 2006 track from the&nbsp;New Sentimentality&nbsp;EP, this time featuring Japanese pop singer Asako Toki. 2015’s&nbsp;Hear You&nbsp;was defined by its loosening of the rhythmically frenzied work that predated it. Understated instrumentation stretched and smeared style and genre spectra, as heard in the piano-laden “オトトタイミングキミト”; the drumless rap on “Time Goes”; and the tabla, synth, and chanting in “G.O.O.D L.U.C.K.” Although such experimentation was always foreshadowed by the band’s early EPs&nbsp;songs, ideas we forgot&nbsp;(2003) and&nbsp;The Future Is Now(2012)—and later echoed by&nbsp;Our Latest Number&nbsp;(2018)—Hear You&nbsp;is still subdued, a marked departure from the band’s prior work. NOW I SEE THE LIGHT&nbsp;(2024), toe’s fourth full-length album, is a bridge between the experimental restraint of their later work and the explosive abandon of their earlier output. From the opening tracks, toe balance serpentine passages against meditative repetition. On “LONELINESS WILL SHINE,” “サニーボーイ・ラプソディ,” and “NOW I SEE THE LIGHT,” Hirokazu reprises his role as part-time vocalist, breaking the band yet further from the instrumental work that formerly defined them. As a whole,&nbsp;NOW I SEE THE LIGHT&nbsp;closes the loop between early and late toe, giving them a clean slate for their new outlook. A leading force in Japan’s post-rock scene, toe is celebrating their 25th year.&nbsp;

Like an intergalactic troubadour who crash-landed last century, Joshua Burnell makes retro chamber pop for the modern world. Fresh off the back of a UK tour including a growing number of sold out dates, Burnell is unleashing his second tour and album this year: Condor Keep &amp; Other Stories. Born in France, but raised on the move, including years in Linlithgow, Kendal and Yorkshire, the eclecticism of Joshua’s influences mirrors this restless movement. There are shades of 70s rock, singer-songwriter folk and classical sophistication drawn together with a bookish edge. His music has been compared to The Decemberists, Al Stewart and The Observer wrote: “much of it would fit comfortably in a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis set.” His show feels like poring over an anthology of otherworldly tales yet with the flamboyance and emotion of a stadium rock show. Sensitive to the social challenges we all face in today’s age, Joshua creates universes to offer both a temporary escape but also to reflect today’s injustices through his characters and stories with the understanding that bringing people together is the remedy. The standing ovation he received at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention amongst numerous festivals is testament that people are starting to connect with this relentlessly creative artist. The Escape From Condor Keep Tour spans across the UK and Europe, with some dates already sold out - one of them (aptly) a medieval keep in the Netherlands. Having received the thumbs up from BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe, and backed by a stellar 5-piece band, Joshua Burnell is not one to miss.
