Guitarist and composer&nbsp;Mason&nbsp;Lindahl&nbsp;returns this fall with the double album,&nbsp;Joshua / Same Day Walking&nbsp;(out September 24 via&nbsp;Mt. Brings Death). The record’s opener “Joshua Underwater” straddles the line between hope and fear, while the lead single “Little Sister” (Same Day Walking) conveys a glacial but luminous sense of grief. Recorded between Northern California and Iceland with producers&nbsp;Robby Moncrieff&nbsp;(Dirty Projectors,&nbsp;Zach Hill) and 2x Grammy-Winner&nbsp;Sam Slater&nbsp;(Joker,&nbsp;Chernobyl), the two albums chart distinct sonic worlds: hazy, humid, and moss-draped on one hand, windswept and expansive on the other. Together they form the most complete portrait yet of&nbsp;Lindahl’s&nbsp;emotive and versatile playing, full of buzzing strings, subtle electronic atmospheres, and a restless search for expression. Lindahl’s&nbsp;2021 release&nbsp;Kissing Rosy in the Rain&nbsp;(Tompkins Square) arrived after more than a decade of silence and established him as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary guitar music. That album followed his 2009 debut&nbsp;Serrated Man Sound&nbsp;and drew attention for its intensity and restraint, with long arpeggiated passages, stark pauses, and an emotional directness that defied easy categorization. Across his work,&nbsp;Lindahl&nbsp;has honed a style that is austere yet visceral, calm yet storm-torn, closer in spirit to&nbsp;Tchaikovsky&nbsp;than&nbsp;Fahey.&nbsp;This summer saw&nbsp;Lindahl&nbsp;supporting the&nbsp;Yeah Yeah Yeahs at their NYC concert.
